India Secures Larger EU Steel Quota

India will gain an export quota of 1.64 million metric tons of steel to the European Union under a free trade agreement. However, Indian steel exporters will still face carbon-related costs and a 50 percent tariff on shipments exceeding the quota limit.

India secured export access for up to 1.64 million metric tons of steel annually to the European Union under a bilateral free trade agreement. The pact grants an additional preferential quota of 694,853 tons alongside an existing WTO allotment. The combined allocation covers 68.4% of India steel exports to the bloc recorded in 2025.
