India and New Zealand Sign Major Free Trade Agreement
The new pact removes tariffs on 95% of New Zealand exports while expanding Indian textile and pharma access. It also provides 6,000 new visas for Indian workers.
India and New Zealand have officially signed a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) aimed at deepening economic ties through significant tariff reductions and expanded labor mobility. The pact, concluded after nine months of negotiations, marks one of the fastest trade deals secured by New Delhi as it seeks to diversify its export markets amid global economic uncertainty. Under the terms of the agreement, tariffs will be eliminated or reduced on 95% of New Zealand's exports to the South Asian nation, specifically targeting sectors such as seafood, iron, steel, and scrap aluminum.
The benefits of this FTA are widespread, opening the doors of opportunity to 1.4 billion consumers in the Indian market.
