Incyte to Buy Vega Therapeutics in 2 Billion Dollar Deal
Incyte has agreed to purchase Vega Therapeutics for 1.25 billion dollars upfront plus milestones to secure a late-stage treatment for von Willebrand disease. The acquisition aims to bolster the company's portfolio as its top-selling drug Jakafi nears a major patent expiration in 2028.
INCYTE CORP will acquire Vega Therapeutics for up to $2 billion to expand its blood disorder pipeline. The deal includes $1.25 billion in upfront cash and $750 million in potential milestone payments. This acquisition secures a late-stage drug candidate as the United States drugmaker prepares for a 2028 patent cliff for its top-selling drug, Jakafi.
### Hedging Against the Jakafi Patent Cliff Incyte is moving to protect its revenue stream as Jakafi, which generated $3.09 billion in 2025 sales, faces expiring patent protections in 2028. The acquisition of Vega, a subsidiary of Star Therapeutics, brings VGA039 into the portfolio. This monoclonal antibody treats von Willebrand disease, a condition where blood fails to clot due to protein deficiency.
