Incoming PRA Head Says UK Can Learn From ECB Review
Braddick told lawmakers today that the UK could learn from the ECB review of bank supervision. She noted the importance of examining methods beyond just rules.
The incoming head of the United Kingdom's prudential regulator for banks and insurers suggested on Wednesday that the country could gain valuable insights from the European Central Bank's recent review of its supervisory framework. During a pre-appointment hearing before the parliamentary Treasury Committee, Nathalie Braddick addressed lawmakers regarding the findings, which explored the competitiveness of the banking system across the European Union. Braddick highlighted that the focus on supervisory methods, rather than just regulatory rules, was a particularly noteworthy aspect of the European review.
"I was interested that the ECB are also talking about the approach to supervision and not just the rules. I think there are things to be learned from that."
Braddick's comments suggest a willingness to look beyond domestic borders to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of British financial oversight as the Prudential Regulation Authority prepares for a transition in leadership. The United Kingdom continues to evaluate its regulatory stance to ensure the long-term stability and competitiveness of its financial services sector.
