Hong Kong Q1 GDP expands 5.9 percent as outlook holds
Hong Kong's economy grew 5.9 percent in the first quarter of 2026 on strong exports. The government kept its growth forecast but raised inflation estimates.
Hong Kong GDP grew 5.9% year-on-year in the first quarter, driven by a surge in exports and private consumption. The expansion follows 4.0% growth in the final quarter of 2025 and exceeds the 3.1% rate recorded a year ago. Sustained export demand suggests the city is successfully leveraging the global cycle for advanced electronics and financial services.
### Exports and Consumption Drive Growth The first-quarter performance matched preliminary data released earlier in May. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy expanded 2.9% during the January-March period, up from 1.0% in the preceding quarter. Government officials maintained the full-year 2026 GDP growth forecast within a range of 2.5% to 3.5%.
