Hermes and Kering shares fall as Iran war hits demand
Hermes and Kering shares fell today as the Iran war hit Middle East sales and European tourism. Hermes reported a 40% drop in Gulf luxury mall sales for March.
Shares of HERMES INTERNATIONAL led a significant downturn in the luxury sector on Wednesday, as escalating conflict in Iran dampened consumer demand in the Middle East and curtailed tourism across Europe. The Birkin bag manufacturer saw its stock price tumble by as much as 14% in early trading, reflecting broader anxieties that the geopolitical instability is stalling a long-awaited industry recovery. This decline has brought the company's year-to-date losses to approximately 24%.
The ripple effects of the regional tension were felt across the luxury landscape. KERING, the parent company of Gucci, saw its shares drop more than 9% following reports that the conflict had stifled consumer spending. This follows a similar warning from LVMH MOET HENNESSY LOUIS VUI, which recently noted a sharp deceleration in activity within the Middle East region.
