Global Renewables Must Double by 2030
Global renewable power installations must double to meet 2030 climate pledges despite record deployment last year. A new report highlights severe gaps in grid infrastructure and energy efficiency.

Global renewable capacity installations must double to roughly 1,200 GW annually by 2030 to meet climate targets, despite adding a record 690 GW in 2025. Total global installed renewable capacity reached 5.15 terawatts at the end of 2025, falling short of the 11.2 TW target set at the COP28 climate summit in the United Arab Emirates. Accelerating deployment is critical as electricity demand outpaces forecasts and grid infrastructure lags behind required growth.
