Ghana limits offshore fund investments to stabilize the cedi

The SEC capped foreign investments by local fund managers to protect the cedi. This move aims to bolster stability as the nation exits its IMF support program.

The Ghana Securities and Exchange Commission has issued a circular directing local fund managers to immediately reduce their offshore investment holdings to protect the cedi and strengthen macroeconomic stability. Under the new directive, which takes effect today, February 7, 2026, most investment funds are restricted from holding more than 20 percent of their total funds under management in foreign securities. This measure is being implemented as Ghana GHGH continues its recovery from a severe economic crisis and approaches the completion of a three-year International Monetary Fund (IMF) support programme.
