Germany extends PCK refinery job guarantees to end of 2026
Germany extends job guarantees for PCK Schwedt refinery staff until late 2026. The move provides stability as the site seeks new oil following Russian cuts.
Germany extended employment guarantees for 1,000 PCK refinery workers by six months through the end of 2026. This follows Russia halting Druzhba pipeline deliveries, stripping 17% of the refinery's annual supplies. Stabilizing the refinery is critical as it provides the majority of fuel for Berlin's energy infrastructure.
Economy Minister Katherina Reiche said the extension provides reliable prospects for staff. The refinery currently operates at 80% capacity for May, down from 85% previously. This reduction follows the cessation of Russian oil flows that historically powered the eastern German site.
