German Economy Minister to Visit China with Top CEOs
Economy Minister Katherina Reiche will travel to China next week accompanied by the chief executives of BASF and Thyssenkrupp. The visit aims to address trade dependencies and demand fair competition amid rising global protectionism and shifts in the international automotive and energy sectors.
German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche will lead a delegation of top industrial executives to China from May 26 to May 29. The mission includes the CEOs of BASF SE and Thyssenkrupp AG to address trade imbalances and raw material security. This high-level engagement is critical as German industrial leaders navigate rising protectionism and intensifying competition in the automotive and energy sectors.
### Securing Industrial Supply Chains Germany is currently squeezed by competitive pressure from Chinese manufacturers and potential import tariffs in the United States. The visit follows a trip by Chancellor Friedrich Merz three months ago, which focused on reducing dependencies in the rare earths sector. The government must position itself more resiliently regarding raw materials and demand fair competition, according to the Economy Ministry.
