Five States Join Lawsuit Against Nexstar Tegna Merger
Massachusetts, Vermont, Indiana, Kansas, and Pennsylvania joined a lawsuit to block the $6.2 billion broadcaster deal. A judge recently halted consolidation.
Five more states joined an antitrust lawsuit to block the $6.2 billion acquisition of TEGNA INC by NEXSTAR MEDIA GROUP INC. The coalition now includes 13 states challenging the merger in the United States. A court block prevents Nexstar from consolidating operations, threatening the integration of a group reaching 80% of households.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta said late evening Thursday that Massachusetts, Vermont, Indiana, Kansas, and Pennsylvania joined the litigation. The original lawsuit launched in March. District Judge Troy Nunley ruled on April 17 that the deal would likely lessen competition in dozens of local television markets.
