EU nations seek safeguard measures on plastic imports
Five European Union countries have petitioned the European Commission for safeguard measures to restrict plastic packaging imports. The request aims to protect the domestic industry from a surge in foreign shipments.
Five EU member states filed a request with the European Commission on Monday morning for safeguard measures to curb plastic packaging imports amid surging inbound shipments. The petition targets polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as PET, following months of industry lobbying over domestic market pressure. Trade lawyers familiar with the matter said the executive body received the formal filing last week after granting procedural approval.
