EDF postpones Edison stake sale decision due to war
EDF delayed a decision on selling its Edison stake as conflict disrupts LNG imports. Officials will monitor the market before reassessing options in late May.
Electricite de France (EDF) delayed the sale of its stake in Edison, its Italian utility unit, after conflict in Iran disrupted liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies. The Italian unit is valued between €7 billion and €10 billion. The delay stalls the efforts of France to raise capital for its domestic nuclear reactor expansion.
### Regional Conflict Halts Energy Divestment The U.S.-Israeli war on Iran nearly stopped shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. This maritime blockade cut off LNG exports from Qatar and damaged QatarEnergy facilities. Edison relies on these shipments as a primary gas source for the market in Italy.
