STOXX 600 edges lower from record high as tech stocks fall
The STOXX 600 fell 0.1% on Thursday after hitting a record high. Tech shares dropped while strong earnings from Indra and Schneider Electric limited losses.
European markets experienced a slight pullback on Thursday as the pan-European STOXX 600 index closed 0.1% lower, retreating from an intraday record high. The decline was primarily driven by the healthcare and technology sectors, which fell 1% and 0.5% respectively, despite a series of positive corporate reports that helped mitigate broader losses.
Within the technology sector, semiconductor stocks faced significant pressure. ASML Holding N.V. and ASM INTERNATIONAL NV both saw declines of approximately 4%, tracking a downward trend in the United States. This follows a reaction to NVIDIA Corporation, whose recent financial forecasts failed to sustain investor enthusiasm despite exceeding expectations. Ben Barringer, head of technology research at Quilter Cheviot, noted the shifting sentiment regarding high-growth tech firms.
