European shares rose on Tuesday afternoon as strong corporate earnings and falling Brent Crude Oil prices offset an earlier drag from HSBC HOLDINGS PLC-SPONS ADR's revenue miss. The pan-European STOXX 600 index climbed 0.47% to 643.68 points, recovering from an intraday decline of 0.41%. The gains position the benchmark index higher ahead of the ECB rate decision on Thursday, when policymakers are expected to maintain steady borrowing costs.
