Energy Sector Boosts European Q1 Profit Growth to 4 Percent
European blue chips expect 4 percent profit growth this quarter as energy firms benefit from high oil prices. Cost cuts also helped margins across the region.
European blue-chip companies are expected to report a significant increase in profits for the first quarter of 2026, bolstered by a surge in the energy sector. According to data from LSEG I/B/E/S, companies listed on the STOXX 600 are projected to see average earnings growth of 4%, a sharp reversal from the 2% year-on-year decline seen in the previous quarter.
This growth is largely driven by a windfall for energy companies as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has pushed prices for Brent Crude Oil up by 50% to 70%. Consequently, earnings within the energy sector are anticipated to climb by 24.9%, while other sectors are forecast to deliver a more modest 1.5% average increase.
