Eurogroup head calls for swift EU energy price response
Eurogroup chair Kyriakos Pierrakakis urged swift EU action to shield economies from rising energy costs. He said the region remains resilient despite price shocks.
Eurozone finance ministers are calling for swift, coordinated action across Europe to mitigate the economic impact of sustained high energy prices. The surge in costs, driven by the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, has seen oil prices climb approximately 37% since the outbreak of hostilities. This spike has intensified concerns regarding inflation and placed significant pressure on European governments to provide relief to households and businesses.
Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Eurogroup chair and Finance Minister of Greece, emphasized the urgency of the situation in a recent communication to Reuters.
