EU Proposes Expanding Frontex Force

The European Commission has proposed expanding the EU border police force Frontex to thirty thousand officers. Commissioners announced the plan on Tuesday to increase powers and include migrant transfers.

The European Commission proposed expanding Frontex's standing corps to 30,000 officers during a Tuesday morning briefing in Belgium. The expanded mandate allows joint border forces to conduct migrant transfers between non-EU countries. The overhaul gives the agency rapid-deployment emergency powers to manage external migration pressures.
