Essendant Plans 650 Illinois Layoffs
Office supply wholesaler Essendant is planning to eliminate 650 jobs across two Illinois facilities this October. A law firm is investigating whether the company complied with federal WARN Act notice requirements.
Essendant will cut 644 jobs across two Illinois facilities on October 3, part of a broader six-state restructuring eliminating 1,300 positions. The permanent reductions stem from a filing submitted to the United States state department of commerce. The office supply wholesaler faces a potential legal challenge regarding federal notice requirements.
The Deerfield-based company reported plans to terminate 510 workers at its Lincolnshire warehouse and another 134 employees at its Carol Stream site. Federal labor statutes mandate 60 calendar days of advance notice for plant closures or mass layoffs exceeding specific thresholds.
