Eddie Bauer Retail Store Operator Files for Bankruptcy and Begins Liquidation
The operator of Eddie Bauer retail stores filed for bankruptcy on Monday and began liquidation sales. Online and wholesale operations will remain unaffected.
Eddie Bauer LLC filed for bankruptcy protection in New Jersey today, initiating a process that includes the immediate start of liquidation sales at 180 Eddie Bauer-branded retail stores across the United States
US and Canada
CA. These 180 Eddie Bauer-branded outdoor apparel stores are beginning the liquidation process while the company seeks a buyer for its brick-and-mortar retail business. The filing involves more than $1 billion of debt and triggers a significant restructuring that separates the company’s physical retail operations from Eddie Bauer’s online, manufacturing, and wholesale businesses.
The move specifically targets the brick-and-mortar network, which is operated by Catalyst Brands, the licensee responsible for running the stores in the U.S. and Canada. Under the current bankruptcy proceedings, Outdoor 5 will continue to operate the brand’s online and wholesale sales, while Authentic Brands remains the owner of the intellectual property for the Eddie Bauer name. This structural separation ensures that while the physical storefronts face liquidation or potential sale, other segments of the business remain distinct from the retail arm's financial distress.
