ECB Vice President Warns of Volatility Risks to Economy
ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos said market volatility could amplify shocks. He noted that rising oil prices create new risks for inflation and growth.
Financial market volatility has the potential to magnify economic shocks within the euro zone, according to European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos. Speaking in Madrid, de Guindos noted that the central bank will evaluate multiple growth and inflation scenarios during its upcoming policy meeting on March 19. The surge in energy costs, with oil prices climbing nearly 50% since the start of the year, is largely attributed to the ongoing conflict in Iran. This spike is expected to drive inflation higher, placing additional pressure on the ECB to implement measures to control price growth.
