The United States antitrust head Omeed Assefi warned companies against using artificial intelligence disruption as a baseless defense during merger reviews. The warning targeted dealmakers claiming AI is replacing their industries to bypass competition scrutiny. The DOJ expects empirical proof for tech-driven merger justifications.
Assefi addressed an audience at New York University on Thursday. He stated that while merging parties may engage with the division at any point, the agency recognizes attempts to mislead regulators.
