Trade tensions between Colombia and Ecuador have intensified as both nations move to implement steep reciprocal tariffs. Colombian Commerce Minister Diana Marcela Morales announced a proposal to hike duties on specific Ecuadorean goods to 50%, matching a similar move initiated by Quito. The proposal aims to address 73 tariff subheadings currently taxed at 30%, while also reviewing other products sensitive to recent Ecuadorean trade measures. The plan requires approval from a government committee before implementation.
"We are going to present the proposal not only to raise tariffs on the 73 tariff subheadings, but also to consider other products that could generate some degree of sensitivity due to the measures Ecuador has taken today."
