China has expressed a strong willingness to increase its intake of goods from the European Union, according to statements made by Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. During a recent high-level meeting, the minister emphasized a desire for a more balanced trade relationship while urging the 27-member bloc to reconsider its current restrictions on high-tech exports directed toward the Chinese market. The discussions took place on the sidelines of a World Trade Organization meeting held in Cameroon. Wang Wentao met with European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic on Thursday to discuss the evolving economic landscape between the two major global powers. A statement released by the Chinese ministry on Friday highlighted the importance of maintaining professional trade relations without the interference of political agendas. According to the ministry, the Chinese government is calling on European leadership to view the nation's economic progress through a lens of objectivity and rationality. The dialogue aimed to find common ground in resolving ongoing commercial frictions and differences that have occasionally strained the bilateral partnership. > China also hopes the EU will view its development rationally and objectively, properly address frictions and differences, and jointly promote the development of bilateral economic and trade relations, Wang said. The minister further requested that the European Union refrain from politicizing economic issues, suggesting that a collaborative approach would better serve the interests of both regions. By relaxing controls on high-tech exports, the bloc could potentially unlock new avenues for cooperation and trade growth.
