Chinese private crushers buy Australian canola

Private Chinese crushers have purchased new-crop Australian canola for March shipment in the first private deals since trade was disrupted in 2020. Beijing expanded market access in July after reopening the trade through state-owned trial purchases last year.

A private Chinese crusher bought 68,000 metric tons of new-crop Australian canola for $730 per ton for March delivery, trade sources said on Tuesday morning. The purchases mark the first private import deals since trade restrictions halted shipments six years ago. The revival follows a broader reopening of agricultural channels between China and Australia in mid-2025.
