China's manufacturing PMI rose to 49.8 in August from 49.2 in July, beating the median forecast of 49.6. The official survey released on Monday morning showed factory activity remaining in contraction for a second consecutive month. Persistently weak domestic demand continues to weigh on the broader economic growth momentum.
