China Central Bank Adds 12 New Digital Yuan Operators
China's central bank added 12 banks to its digital yuan program, bringing the total to 22. The move aims to enhance service inclusiveness and meet demand.
The People's Bank of China (PBOC) has officially expanded its digital yuan pilot program by authorizing 12 additional commercial banks to serve as operators. This development, which confirms earlier reports regarding the central bank's expansion plans, brings the total number of financial institutions permitted to handle the sovereign digital currency to 22. The initiative represents a significant push by China to integrate the digital yuan more deeply into the national economy and improve the accessibility of digital payment services.
The newly designated operators include several prominent financial institutions, such as CHINA CITIC BANK CORP LTD-H and CHINA EVERBRIGHT BANK CO L-H, alongside China Guangfa Bank and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. According to a statement from the PBOC, the inclusion of these banks is intended to enhance the inclusiveness of digital yuan services and address the public's need for secure, convenient, and efficient payment methods.
