China April exports rise 14.1 percent as surplus grows

China exports rose 14.1% in April as factories increased shipments to meet global AI-related demand and inventory stockpiling. The growth outpaced the 2.5% gain in March and exceeded the 7.9% increase forecast by economists. A widening trade surplus complicates upcoming diplomatic talks as the United States seeks to address trade imbalances.
Customs data released Saturday showed the April trade surplus reached $84.8 billion, up from $51.13 billion in March. New export orders hit a two-year high as buyers stockpiled components amid the conflict involving Iran. Imports climbed 25.3%, trailing the 27.8% growth recorded in March but beating the 15.2% forecast.
