CAS Rules Russia Can Play in World Championships

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Russian teams can compete in upcoming world championships, overturning International Ice Hockey Federation bans. The court found insufficient evidence that security concerns justified the continued exclusion of Russian players from international tournaments.

Russia teams can compete in upcoming world championships after the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned a ban by the International Ice Hockey Federation on Friday afternoon. The Lausanne-based court struck down exclusions barring participation in the 2026-27 season. The ruling invalidates security justifications that kept teams sidelined following the conflict in Ukraine that began in 2022.
