Bulgaria is set to become the first member state of the European Union to introduce a dedicated support scheme for energy-intensive industries. The measure is designed to offset the economic impact of the energy crisis linked to the conflict in Iran.

Energy Minister Traicho Traikov confirmed during a government briefing on Friday that the initiative is in its final stage of approval by the European Commission. The scheme is expected to be formally launched within the next two to three weeks.
