UK and Turkey Sign Multi-Billion-Pound Typhoon Jet Deal
Britain and Turkey signed a multi-billion-pound training deal for Typhoon jets on Wednesday. The agreement aims to strengthen NATO air capability in the east.
The United Kingdom and Turkey have signed a multi-billion-pound agreement for a comprehensive training and support contract, marking a significant expansion of their existing defense partnership. This new arrangement is part of an 8-billion-pound ($10.73 billion) Typhoon fighter jet deal concluded by the two nations last year. Under the terms of the contract, Turkish pilots and ground crew will receive specialized training within the British defense infrastructure. This preparation is essential as Turkey moves toward operating its first batch of British-built jets. The British Ministry of Defence noted that the agreement facilitates Turkey's integration into the Eurofighter program while bolstering NATO combat air capabilities on its eastern flank. Major industrial players are set to provide the necessary components and training hardware. These entities include BAE Systems plc, Leonardo DRS, Inc., and Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, in addition to MBDA and Martin-Baker. The deal was signed in London by British Defence Secretary John Healey and Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler.
