BPER BANCA SPA reported first-quarter net profit of 519 million euros, exceeding analyst forecasts. The results follow a 5.4 billion euro merger with BANCA POPOLARE DI SONDRIO completed in July. Strong fee growth positions the lender as a key consolidation player in Italy.
Net fees rose 25% to 681 million euros during the three months to March, driven by asset management and insurance product commissions following Pop Sondrio's integration. On a like-for-like basis, fees rose 3.7%.
