BP agreed to buy a 60 percent interest in three offshore Namibian exploration blocks from Eco Atlantic. The deal aims to expand the firm's upstream portfolio.
Energy giant BP PLC has entered into an agreement to acquire a 60% majority interest in three offshore exploration blocks located in Namibia. The transaction involves the purchase of the stake from ECO ATLANTIC OIL & GAS LTD, an exploration firm based in Canada. This move is part of a broader effort by BP to enhance its upstream portfolio by securing positions in high-growth regions. The Namibian offshore area has become a focal point for international energy companies following several significant discoveries in recent years. By taking a lead role in these blocks, BP aims to leverage its technical expertise to further explore the region's hydrocarbon potential. The deal marks a significant expansion for BP's footprint in Southern Africa. Eco Atlantic Oil & Gas, which previously held a larger share, will maintain a minority position in the project as the partnership moves forward with exploration activities.
