Lobbying intensifies ahead of US House vote on E15 bill
Biofuel advocates and the refining sector are clashing as the US House prepares to vote on year-round E15 sales this week. The proposed bill would allow nationwide sales of the ethanol blend while tightening rules for refinery exemptions.
United States lawmakers will vote on H.R. 1346 this week to authorize year-round nationwide sales of gasoline blended with 15% ethanol. The bill represents the closest the biofuels industry has come to ending seasonal restrictions after failed attempts in 2024 and January 2026. Investors are monitoring the outcome as the legislation could lower fuel prices by 15-40 cents per gallon while pressuring refinery margins.
Biofuel advocates and refining groups are meeting legislators on Capitol Hill. The Renewable Fuels Association and American Petroleum Institute are lobbying as the House prepares for the vote. This push follows a 20-day waiver on E15 restrictions issued on May 1.
