Belarus has agreed to free 25 prisoners in return for the partial lifting of United States sanctions, U.S. envoy John Coale said on Wednesday. The interim deal follows lengthy negotiations aimed at releasing hundreds of political detainees in exchange for easing international isolation. Coale announced the agreement in Minsk following talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, noting that Washington will remove restrictions on two industrial companies.
