Baowu Resumes Simandou Mining Operations After Strike
Operations at Guinea's Simandou iron ore project resumed Thursday after workers ended a strike. The Baowu-led consortium agreed to apply national pay standards.
Baowu Resources resumed mining operations at its Simandou iron ore project in Guinea on Thursday morning following a 10-day labor strike. The work stoppage at blocks 1 and 2 began April 28 after employees accused the consortium of failing to implement national pay regulations. This resolution stabilizes development at the world’s largest untapped high-grade iron ore deposit, which is critical for China’s steel supply chain.
### Resolving the Simandou Pay Dispute The Baowu Winning Simandou Consortium (BWCS) reached an agreement with union representatives and government officials on Wednesday. Under the signed accord, BWCS committed to applying the national collective mining agreement established in February 2025. The deal includes fixed pay increases for various job grades while protecting existing worker classifications.
