The Bank of England has announced a reduction in the cost for financial institutions to access its on-demand liquidity support. This change marks a significant step in the central bank's transition toward a demand-driven reserves system, moving away from a model where lenders maintain large interest-bearing reserves. Under this new framework in the United Kingdom, commercial banks utilize collateral, such as government bonds, to secure cash from the central bank, allowing the institution to reduce its own holdings of government debt.
