Bank of America Q1 profit grows on strong trading gains
Bank of America reported a first quarter profit of 8.6 billion dollars as trading revenue rose 13 percent. Volatile markets helped drive increased client activity.
BANK OF AMERICA CORP reported a rise in first-quarter profit as heightened global market volatility drove a surge in trading activity. The financial institution benefited from an environment where investors navigated shifting economic signals and geopolitical tensions.
For the three months ended March 31, the bank recorded a net income of $8.6 billion, or $1.11 per share. This performance represents a significant increase from the $7.4 billion, or 89 cents per share, reported during the same period the previous year. A primary driver of this growth was the sales and trading division, which saw revenue climb 13% to reach $6.4 billion. These results reflect how volatile markets can benefit investment banks, as trading desks generate higher revenue from increased client activity.
