Analysts raise EU carbon price forecasts for 2026 and 2027

Analysts slightly raised average price forecasts for EU carbon allowances. Expectations for 2026 and 2027 rose as carbon prices track volatile gas markets.

Insights:
Analysts have slightly increased their average price forecasts for EU EUEU carbon allowances (EUA) for the next two years, according to a recent survey of 10 market experts. The average forecast for 2026 now stands at EUR 92.65 per metric ton, while the 2027 outlook has been adjusted to EUR 107.29 per metric ton. These figures represent a modest rise from an October survey, which had predicted prices of EUR 91.11 and EUR 106.94 respectively.
The survey also provided a preliminary look at 2028, with the average forecast reaching EUR 110.90 per ton, showing little change from the EUR 110.20 estimated in October. These revisions come during a period of significant volatility for the benchmark EUcarbon contract. In early 2026, the contract traded around EUR 84 per metric ton, but it reached an intraday peak of EUR 93.80 on 15 January, marking a near two-and-a-half year high for the market.
