Afreximbank Raises $2 Billion in its Largest Ever Loan
The Africa Export-Import Bank raised $2 billion in its largest syndicated loan to date. The funds will refinance debt and cover general bank expenditures today.
The Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has successfully secured $2 billion through a three-year dual-tranche syndicated loan, marking the largest transaction of its kind in the institution's history. The Cairo-based lender announced on Monday that the facility comprises $1.73 billion and 228 million euros, which will be utilized to refinance existing debt facilities and support general corporate expenditures.
Strong investor interest led the bank to increase the total amount from its initial target of $1.5 billion. A diverse group of 31 lenders from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa participated in the deal. MASHREQBANK, MUFG Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank served as the joint global coordinators, lead arrangers, and bookrunners for the transaction.
