South Africa's Absa Group opened its first Gulf office in Dubai during the morning, establishing a regional hub to capture growing trade flows between Africa and the Middle East. The expansion follows a regulatory license granted to the bank in July. Non-oil trade between the United Arab Emirates and Africa rose to $158B in 2025, compared to $112B in the prior year. The office positions the bank to compete with domestic rivals already operating in the financial center.
