Wall Street's main indexes extended their rally on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average reaching a record high, buoyed by strength in the healthcare and technology sectors. The Dow rose 261.09 points, or 0.53%, to 49,238.27, placing it just 1.7% away from the historic 50,000 mark. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 gained 17.29 points, or 0.25%, to 6,919.46, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 42.21 points, or 0.18%, to 23,438.04.
Key drivers of the market's upward momentum included robust performances in healthcare, up 1.6%, and technology, which rose by 0.5%. Moderna surged about 10% after BofA Global Research raised its price target. SanDisk soared 23% to a record high, while Western Digital added 14.4% and Micron Technology gained 6%. The materials sector also emerged as a significant percentage gainer, with Albemarle climbing 11% following a target price increase by Berenberg.
