Universal Health Buys Talkspace in 835 Million Dollar Deal
Universal Health Services will acquire virtual provider Talkspace for $835 million to meet rising demand. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.
Hospital operator Universal Health Services, Inc. has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Talkspace, Inc. for approximately $835 million, a strategic move designed to strengthen its presence in the behavioral health market. The acquisition price of $5.25 per share represents a 10.29% premium relative to the stock's previous close. Market reaction was immediate, with shares of the virtual care provider climbing over 7% in early trading sessions following the announcement.
The integration of the virtual platform will significantly broaden the reach of the hospital operator's mental health division. Talkspace currently manages a network of approximately 6,000 licensed professionals who provide services throughout the United States, including Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. As of the end of 2025, the platform's services were available to a population exceeding 200 million individuals via health plans, employee assistance programs, and other benefit arrangements.
