South African Miners to Bid for Ngqura Export Terminal
South African miners will bid to build and operate a new manganese export terminal at Ngqura. The project aims to add 16 million tons of export capacity.
A consortium of manganese miners in South Africa is preparing to bid for the construction and operation of a new export terminal at the Port of Ngqura in the Eastern Cape province. AFRICAN RAINBOW MINERALS LTD (ARM) confirmed on Friday that its unit, Assmang, is a member of the Manganese Producers Consortium (MPC), which aims to partner with the state-owned logistics firm Transnet on the project.
The initiative is expected to add 16 million metric tons of manganese export capacity and significantly improve national logistics. Transnet has indicated it will invite formal bids for the Ngqura manganese export terminal around April as part of a broader strategy to open its network to private firms and restore capacity that has declined in recent years, which has previously throttled mineral exports.
