Three Killed in Explosion at Russian Petrochemical Plant
Three people died and 68 were injured following a gas explosion at a Sibur plant in Tatarstan. The facility expects a six percent drop in annual production.
A massive fire and explosion at a petrochemical plant in the Tatarstan region of Russia has claimed the lives of at least three individuals and left dozens more injured. The incident took place at the PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim complex, a major facility operated by the petrochemical company Sibur. According to official statements, the blaze was triggered by a gas mixture explosion following a loss of pressure at a unit producing synthetic rubber and plastics.
Sibur reported that two of its employees were killed in the accident, while the regional Emergencies Ministry confirmed the death of a firefighter who succumbed to injuries following a secondary blast. Of the 68 people reported injured, 21 remain in the hospital, including three individuals listed in serious condition. In response to the severity of the injuries, authorities dispatched a specialized aircraft to transport victims to Moscow for advanced treatment.
