China Resells Record LNG Volumes Amid High Spot Prices
China reloaded a record 1.31 million tons of LNG this year as weak domestic demand persists. High spot prices and steady pipeline gas allow for these exports.
China is capitalizing on a tight global energy market by reselling record volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG). While other Asian nations struggle with supply disruptions caused by the conflict involving Iran, Chinese firms are leveraging high spot prices and sufficient domestic reserves to export surplus fuel. According to analytics firms ICIS, Kpler, and Vortexa, the world’s top LNG importer reloaded between 8 and 10 cargoes in March, marking its highest monthly total on record.
So far this year, China has reloaded a record 1.31 million metric tons of LNG, totaling 19 cargoes. Data indicates that 10 of these were delivered to South Korea, five to Thailand, and the remainder were distributed among Japan, India, and the Philippines. This surge in resales contrasts sharply with the 0.82 million tons resold in 2025 and the 0.98 million tons moved in 2023.
