US Trade Rep Says Chip Controls Not Major Focus in China
Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed that semiconductor export controls were not a primary focus during bilateral meetings in Beijing. While the Trump administration approved Nvidia H200 exports, China has yet to authorize deliveries as it prioritizes domestic development.
United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said chip export controls were not a primary focus during bilateral trade discussions in Beijing on Friday. The lack of progress persists despite the presence of NVIDIA CORP CEO Jensen Huang during the presidential visit to China. The Trump administration approved H200 exports to China in December and added further conditions in January, but no deliveries have been made.
Greer told Bloomberg TV that the bilateral meeting did not include specific talks on semiconductor export restrictions. Reuters reported that the U.S. had cleared around 10 Chinese companies to buy H200s, including Alibaba, Tencent, and Bytedance.
