A Chicago jury awarded $49.5 million to the family of Samya Stumo, a victim of the 2019 Boeing 737 MAX crash. This is the second jury verdict regarding the Ethiopia disaster, which killed 346 people across two crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia in 2018 and 2019. The payout signals continued legal liability for Boeing despite settling 90% of claims related to the global 737 MAX grounding.
