UK Financial Conduct Authority Launches Review into Artificial Intelligence Impact on Retail Markets

The UK Financial Conduct Authority has launched a review into the impact of AI on retail markets. The study will assess consumer protection and competition.

The UK Financial Conduct Authority launched a formal review on January 27, 2026, to assess how advanced artificial intelligence will impact retail financial markets, consumer protection, and market structure within the United Kingdom GBGB. Led by FCA Executive Director Sheldon Mills sheldon mills, the review will deliver its findings to the board by mid-2026. The regulator has explicitly stated that it does not intend to introduce AI-specific rules as part of this process, opting instead to evaluate how existing consumer protection frameworks are affected.
