UBS CEO warns against overly strict Swiss bank regulations
UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti warned that focusing on risks in the regulatory debate could undermine Swiss prosperity. New rules are expected by the end of April.
Sergio Ermotti, the CEO of UBS Group AG, has expressed concerns that the international trust Switzerland built through its handling of the Credit Suisse crisis is being undermined by an alarmist regulatory discourse. In an opinion piece published in the Swiss newspaper Aargauer Zeitung, Ermotti argued that the current focus on risks and fears could jeopardize the nation's financial standing.
The remarks come as the banking giant marks a significant milestone, completing the migration of all former Credit Suisse clients to its own platforms this week. This integration follows the state-engineered emergency takeover that occurred in March 2023. Ermotti emphasized that the path forward for the financial sector should be defined by stability and sound judgment rather than reactive policy.
